New Look Designers Assistant

Today was my first day as a desginer assistant at New Looks head office in Goodge Street.
The building is made out of glass and is home to some fine pieces of art and architectural furniture. Whilst sat on one of those cool modern chairs I observed the employees as I waited for my 'boss' to come down and collect me. Every individual totted in wearing heels, ultra stylish, one hand holding a mocha another clasping their blackbezza, I knew I would fit in just perfectly.

I was introduced to the rest of the team who were lush, and then seated to my desk to-be for the next two weeks. Another Hayley talked me through my brief of scouting next Spring/Summer 2011 trends and I threw myself into to soucing the net and producing my inspirational images in to a power point presentation.

The office is divided in to sections overwhelmed with racks of untidied clothes and sky high mood boards. Fabrics are amongst the mess alongside fashion bibles of VOGUE and ELLE. One thing I learnt more than ever on my first day, is the way the high street works effieciently and effectively towards peoples needs and trends. During my first design meeting where I was brought in to a discussion room dominated by an overhead projector, I learnt of our competitors shop floor layouts. Everyone had worked in teams and had been allocated different stores such as Dotty P's, Topshop, Next, Asda ect and were here to discuss the results. I feel I have a lot to bring to the tabel, but being the new person I felt it wrong to express my opinions...holding my tongue isnt usually an option for me, but I have to gain their approval before I start criticisng their company....if you know what I mean.

Due to the stupid inconvienient tube strike, I got to leave a little earlier to avoid being stranded. Tomorrow I will begin surfing the net hunting for the trend 'Hotel  Byblos'....its amazing having the power and knowledge to be in the know about trends that havent even happened yet!
