GOK WAN SPECSAVER SHOW AT THE V&A

The Doll Agency got in touch with me a few weeks after our last event BNTM. Graham had put in such an amazing word about me, the first time we met and how I threw myself straight in there and used my initiative, that the Doll wanted me to be work backstage for their next event for GOK WAN. Whilst working at BNTM I took it upon myself to help out backstage and became the person everyone relied on for help and advice. This allowed me to build strong relationships with all the dressers and models backstage. I helped fix clothes on site and ran errands to make sure that everything ran smoothly before the models entered the runway.

The Doll agency now wanted to elect me head dresser and to have more responsibility backstage by taking control of all the dressers, rails and models. Seeing as I was called to turn up on the day of the show hours before it was scheduled to start, it was quite daunting not knowing any of the looks. When I worked with Graham we knew all the outfits and scenes weeks in advance. Here it was learn, do and go go go!!

I had a meeting with GOK WAN in the hotel opposite the museum. He made an entrance with his radiant complexion and Herbal Essences advert shiny hair. His fashion is as pristine as you see on TV and not one part of the day did I see him looking worse for wear. He was probably so high on the adrenaline of the show that the hunger pains and lack of sleep were easy to forget! Trust me we've all been there! Eating is cheating!

Hear I sat and listened to what model was the most timid, shy and less experienced. The winners of the Specsaver competition were from all around Europe and had never modelled before. They just had a good Specsaver face and were as young as 16.

Gok was ha-mazing, modest, polite and very patient. He encouraged everyone and had full hands on action from start to finish.  No wonder he can get OAP's to get naked! He has such a way with words and is very tactful. The show ran extremely well and lasted for about 3 hours. It was a sit down meal with a panel of judges. Kelly Brooke, Mylene Klass, Hillary Alexander and Lisa Snowdon were a few celebs and judges amongst the crowd.

After the show we bagged everything up and transported all the garments back to the hotel. Then we went to the after party held in the foyer.

Sometimes working at events like these becomes so surreal. I found myself ordering champagne and mohitjos at the free bar. The hired caterers were making fresh moose desserts in gold champagne glasses that you ate with a tiny silver spoon! The display was divine and made me lost in thought for individuals that are lucky to live this lifestyle everyday.

The GOK goodie bag was filled with fabulous treats including a signed copy of his new book alongside some Specsaver goodies, nibbles and make-up. I nabbed one for me and my mum and made a swift exit home slightly tipsy. There was no time to eat today so it was a quick stop off at Burger King before hitting the last tube home! Fab night!
