A former Harrow student has made her fashion designer debut at the first Britain’s Next Top Model (BNTM) live catwalk show.
Hayley Lai, a former fashion student at the University of Westminster, was chosen to showcase some of her own collection at the event.
It included a total of 14 catwalk shows and pulled in 30,000 visitors at the Excel Centre in at London.
“It was very surreal, a life changing experience and an insight to all positive things that can come my way,” said Hayley.
“I ended up styling the looks for the show alongside Graham Cruz [professional stylist], as well as making the dancer outfits.”
Hayley had previously shadowed top English designer Gareth Pugh and worked with Emilio de la Morenao at London Fashion Week.
The 24-year-old’s client list now includes R ‘n B singer Jamelia and Beyonce’s sister Solange Knowles.
The winner of this year’s Britain’s Next Top Model show Tiffany Pisani was among the contestants modelling clothes at the event.
They swapped between established brands and new designers like Hayley, with Tiffany full of praise for their efforts.
She said: “The shows were absolutely amazing. Very organized, stylists were great and it was an absolute pleasure working with everyone in the team.”
